YAIAA Softball Preview

Division I

1999 Champions: Eastern York

Teams to watch: Eastern, Kennard-Dale, Dallastown, South Western

Players to watch: Lindsey Rohrbaugh, Jaime Livingston, Jen Noonan, Eastern; Katie Bishard, Emily Payne, Sytiva Seitz, Dallastown; Lindsey Gemmill, Kristy Lohrey, Cassie Scofield, Kennard-Dale; Alyssa Steyer, Amber Bailey, Susquehannock; Angie Day, Central York

Notes: Division I's team on the rise has to be South Western, after finishing 10-10 overall last year with the team's best showing since moving to D-I five years ago. First-year coach Rick Eyler has 11 letterwinners returning, and several other division coaches selected the Mustangs as a team to watch. ... The Dover softball team, which went 14-4 in Division II last year, will be making the switch to Division I competition. ... Eyler is one of several first-year coaches in Division I. Also, at Kennard-Dale, Joe Thomas takes over the Rams' program, and Jeffrey Regener, who took over at the end of last year at Dallastown, is now the Wildcats' head coach. ... In hopes of repeating for a Division I crown, the Golden Knights will depend upon three sophomores with varsity experience, first baseman Tasha Hawkle and outfielders Dana Johns and Marisa Grim.

1999 league standings: Eastern 13-3, Kennard-Dale 12-4, Dallastown 12-4, Susquehannock 11-5, Central York 8-8, South Western 8-8, Spring Grove 4-12, Red Lion 4-12, Northeastern 1-15
